About Us

Students Teaching Students ® was founded in October 2008 as a private tutoring company focused on providing enrichment and tutorial opportunities for individuals interested in learning a new language or strengthening their existing skills in a specific language.

The mission of Students Teaching Students ® is to prepare students for the global, 21st century.  The program is not only for students though.  We offer programs for students as young as three up to ninety-three.  Our patrons include students from elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, colleges, and universities.  In addition, we cater to travel agencies and individuals who are frequent travelers to individuals who just want to pick up conversational language skills.  We also offer our services to schools across the country as a part of their after-school and summer programs.

Students Teaching Students ® was established as a result of the desire of one eleven year-old student, Mckendree Walker, a fifth grader at the time, to master the language of Chinese by becoming immersed in the language and culture through one-on-one contact and tutorial support with a student in China.

During the summer of 2008, the Walker family from Memphis, Tennessee, traveled to Beijing for business.  Mckendree utilized the time to learn more about the Chinese culture and language.  A family friend invited the Walker family over for dinner one evening. As the Walker family sat around the dinner table, the concept for Students Teaching Students ® was born.
